Last week, the Greenway Leadership Corps (GLC) met at Johnson Habitat Park for S’more Engagement. High school students from around Denver came to the park after school to hang out by the South Platte River as the sun set. There is a large fire pit right along the river, and we had a chance to work together to practice our fire building skills. Once we had a roaring fire going, we all compared marshmallow-roasting techniques and assembled - and enjoyed - some s’mores and sipped on some hot chocolate.
After catching up, we had the pleasure of talking with Councilman Jolon Clark. Councilman Clark grew up near Wash Park, worked for The Greenway Foundation for nearly 20 years, and was just recently elected to city council in District Seven. With Councilman Clark, we discussed what exactly a city councilman does, how working for city council relates to environmental work, and the Swimmable and Fishable by 2020 plan - all while munching on s’mores!
It was a great evening, and a big thanks to everyone who came out!
