The day was filled with a lot of not-so-graceful falling, plenty of laughter, and the chance to overcome the fear of being strapped to skis or a snowboard. We started near the bottom of the hill, learning the basics of stopping and balancing. Snowboarding can be a difficult sport to get started in as it involves a ton of time sitting and falling in the snow - but our GLC students overcame that challenge and kept climbing higher and higher up the hill to test their skills. And all of the GLCers were able to ride down by the end!
After lunch, we gave back to the park by cleaning up trash around Ruby Hill. In just 30 minutes we had collected and removed four full trash bags!
Many of our high school students had never been snowboarding or skiing before, so they walked away with new skills to carry them forward in the sport.
Thanks to our wonderful sponsor, Christy Sports in Cherry Creek, who donated all of our rental gear for the day. The biggest challenge of learning to snowboard and ski is having the gear, and this day would not have been successful without their help.
If you - or someone you know - is in high school, you can come on our free GLC trips, too! Sign up and find out more HERE!
