After a long winter break, the River Ranger internship is back in full swing! Our high school interns from KIPP Denver Collegiate High School joined us for their second teaching day at Overland Pond Park. The day started with some fun team building activities and a name game, followed by professional development. Each teaching day, we incorporate a professional development aspect for the River Rangers to work on. We chose team teaching as our subject. Since each ranger is paired up for a specific activity they teach during 5th grade SPREE excursions, each pair had the opportunity to practice working together and presenting as a team. The subjects they teach on SPREE excursions range from teaching about beavers, boating and water safety, pollution in our South Platte River, how to test the health of our river, and how to find critters in Overland Pond. This was the first opportunity the Rangers had to team teach their entire lesson. Despite the cold weather, they all did an amazing job and cannot wait for their next teaching day with students in just two weeks!
