It was a beautiful, sunny day at Cherry Creek Reservoir when the Greenway Leadership Corps took six Denver high schoolers sailing for their first time. The Greenway Leadership Corps (GLC) is a segment of The Greenway Foundation that hosts monthly outdoor adventure and stewardship events for Denver high school students. All events are free of charge and students are never required to bring any gear or prior experience! On May 4th, Community Sailing of Colorado – a Denver and Boulder-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit that hosts sailing classes, corporate events, and summer camp programs with the goal of “[making] sailing accessible to all in Colorado, regardless of age and ability” – hosted the GLC at the Cherry Creek Reservoir and Marina for a day of stewardship and sailing. We first worked alongside some other community volunteers in the morning on landscaping and beautification projects for the Marina at Cherry Creek Reservoir. The students worked very hard in the hot morning sun to earn an afternoon of easy sailing! After lunchtime, we were taught some important sailing terminology and shown the ropes on the sailboats we would be using before Isabel and Mike, our sailboat captains for the day, took us out on the reservoir. The winds were fickle and sluggish, but our captains were patient and made sure to give us an unforgettable sailing experience. Thank you so much to Community Sailing of Colorado for being an accommodating host and making sure our students had a great time on the water! Be sure to check out the programs they offer at www.communitysailing.org, and follow other GLC events on our instagram page @greenwayleadershipcorps. See you next month!

This is an amazing experience to try. Is there any available program like this on this year?
