Westerly Creek Greenway Master Plan
October 2009 was the kick off for work to begin on the Westerly Creek Greenway Master Plan. This long awaited project is in collaboration with the Urban Drainage and Flood Control District (UDFCD) which is examining the flood control alternatives in the lower Westerly Creek watershed. The focus of this work is in both Denver and Aurora, and covers approximately thirteen blocks from 11th Avenue to 23rd Avenue, roughly between the Lowry and Stapleton neighborhoods.
When completed this Greenway Master Plan will complement UDFCD’s flood hazard reduction project while meeting the goal of creating a linear park along Westerly Creek that is an attractive urban greenway for pedestrians and cyclists connecting neighborhoods in Aurora and Denver.
A support group called the Westerly Creek Connection, WCC, serves as the project team for the Greenway Foundation. WCC has been working for over two years in collaboration with government agencies, community groups and key officials in both cities.
The fall of 2010 is the target completion date for the Westerly Creek Greenway Master Plan. With the continued support of both Denver and Aurora and the UD&FCD, construction along Westerly Creek can begin.
Funding for this Master Plan has been generously provided by the Colorado Water Conservation Board, the Public Works Department of Denver, and the Quick Foundation. The Westerly Creek Greenway Master Plan is a project under the oversight of the Greenway Foundation and all contributions in support of the Plan are tax deductible.
